Is it really necessary to use a *separate* eye cream and face cream?

A makeup artist told me that one needs a separate eye cream ';because the molecules of a regular face cream are too large to be absorbed by the delicate skin of the eye area.'; Sounds like a bunch of baloney designed to sell more products! hahah. But on the other hand, I've read something similar elsewhere (like in a reputable book on skincare). Hmm... is it true? Or can i use the same cream around my eyes as I use on the rest of my face?Is it really necessary to use a *separate* eye cream and face cream?
Yes.....the skin under the eye is very delicate, and can look puffy if you use a face moisturizer on that area. this is true. i used to work for two cosmetics companies, and they gave us intensive training on the skin and strucures of face and eye creams. plus, the skin around your eyes is very delicate, and some facial creams will not work well, or are too harsh for this area. if you are interested enough to use these products, i would use them correctly for the best results. its amazing what a difference a good eye cream can make
No, you are better off wearing a seperate eye cream. The face creams they have are too heavy. The skin around the eyes is very thin and needs special care.
I was going to school to be an ethetician (skin care specialist) and it depends on what is wrong with your eyes like do you have big circles or lines. I make my own eye cream because I have really dark circles and the stuff I make works better than the stuff that says it is for eyes and getting my circles lighter. and the stuff I make is thicker than the other stuff I put on my face because you cant really get zits on your under eye area. But it is true that you have to be much more gentle with this area because the skin tears much easier and will cause darker circles.


I use Olay stuff it is the most moisturizing I have found and I have used the face regenerist cream not the syrum on my eye are too, and I almost think it does as good of a job on my eyes and other brands eye cream does.
Not really. An eye cream is just more moisturizing than a regular face cream. If you have very dry skin, especially around your eyes, maybe you should use a seperate eye cream, but otherwise, a normal face cream is fine to use all over your face. An eye cream can't make undereye circles or eyebags dissapear. If you're getting enough sleep/rest those are probably genetic. Only makeup can cover undereye circles and I think plastic surgery is the only way to get rid of bags. An eye cream will do nothing for wrinkles. It may temporarily fill up fine lines, but that's about as far as an eye cream will go. You're better off using sunscreen around your eyes (and the rest of your face) instead of eye cream, if you're trying to prevent wrinkles.





And by the way, most cosmetics/skincare molecules CANNOT pass into the skin. We'd be in trouble if they did.
The whole molecule thing sounds like a crock, but I'm not a biologist. However, I do know that the skin under our eyes is very thin and has no oil glands, and therefore tends to need more moisurization than the rest of the face.
as a beauty advisor for Avon, I agree with the makeup artist. The skin around the eye area is also more sensitive to creams, and often can get irritated by regular face creams. Hope this helps, I know they can get expensive, but when you think about it, it looks like such a small jar of cream for the eyes, that costs so much, but since you are just using a tiny bit each time, it can really last longer than you think too.
